tabernacle aren t as known for their reissue work, but here they ve made an exception to shine a light on a truly astounding hidden gem lost in the dry ice haze of the early 90s. phuture classical appendix a originally came out on cassette in 1992 on drome tapes in the netherlands, showcasing a low key selection of artists exploring the limits of deep, dark techno and house. now spread across three 12inch releases, these treasured curios now get the widespread release they deserve, leading in with the haunting self-titled track from paradize disowned before the gritty techno throb of gee lee by dj zero one. considered in their execution and immensely evocative of the underbelly of early rave culture, these releases are ones that discerning old-skool heads will not want to miss.

the two label runners combine forces for the deeply old skool ep. saiyan and luna-c bring the simple joy of the old rave sound to their ep, with two tracks cut in the style of the early breakbeat scene of 1992, and one track that stems from a little later, when things got more 4x4 and slightly tougher. all the tracks on the ep are made with a majority of hardware rather than the standard software of today, and the result is a warm, analogue, and absolutely true to its era ep of rolling breaks, deep basslines and uplifting vibes!

the second release on werk is signed by j. manuel. the young producer has been polishing his sound ever since he first started experimenting with electronic music gear as a child. his commitment to following his own instincts rather than conforming to what was being played around him resulted in a very different aesthetic to the one commonly associated with berlin techno. drive fiction ep stands proof of that. all 3 tracks push boundaries in their own style, that being perhaps the strongest link between them. the title track -drive fiction- presents old-school leads over broken beats and electro inspired pads while the a2 -falling in sine circulation- is arguably the most dance floor oriented track, with a pounding 4×4 kick drum and an alarming 3/4 sine wave slaying the high frequencies. closing the ep is b-side -softer-, a melodic track with long, undulating pads that is nonetheless driven by a powerful rave-inspired beat. with its second release, werk comes to confirm the path it seeks to travel through both parties and releases: that of the sounds less rigid. gritty, wild and presenting a wide range of rhythmic patterns, drive fiction ep is a defying record. challenge accepted?

paul dickow aka strategy is a musical polymath with a signature sound derived from his immersion in hardware-based electronic music. he has spent close to two decades traveling freely through house, techno, rave, noise, ambient, and sounds more difficult to categorize. strategy’s sound is inimitable because it is literally built by hand - his hands. through all of this sonic journeying, including multiple full length releases, a constant has been his love of reggae and dub, yet somehow a proper dub album has never emerged - until now.

camea&#700,,,,s latest release on her imprint neverwhere pays homage to her hometown seattle&#700,,,,s original underground rave warehouse, naf studios, where she went dancing in the late 90s and began her journey that ultimately landed her in berlin. also where nirvanna&#700,,,,s “smells like teen spirit” video was filmed (and ironically now a catholic publishing house), the hedonistic venue is legendary to those who picked up rave flyers scattered on the streets of seattle and took a chance on an emerging new electronic music scene. both originals reflect the raw warehouse vibe of this era, and matrixxman and markus suckut have weighed in with heavy remixes. markus puts his signature on the naf 97 original with a deep space atmospheric techno banger, and matrixxman reworks the original 303 recordings in jack u, sending it into another dimension - and even further.
